Engineering Manager, Platform Team

Are you constantly thinking about how to produce leverage for other engineers? Are you rejecting the status quo of our industry where diseconomy of scale is simply an accepted attribute? Are you passionate about developing tools which increase software developers’ efficiency? Cool, then you might be interested in this role.

The Position
The platform team is responsible for development and maintenance of shared services, consumed by other product teams. In addition, the team shares the responsibility for developer tooling and developer experience, with our SRE team.

You will be responsible for the career development of your reports. You will be collaborating closely with other team managers to ensure effective problem solving in a timely manner.

In this role:

  • You will manage and develop the career of your reports

  • You will collaborate with other teams to identify problems

  • Together with the lead developer as well as the rest of the team you will refine, plan, execute and deliver towards fixing the identified problems so you produce the maximum leverage

  • Ideally you will spend 20% of your time writing code and shipping it to production

  • Through your actions, you will promote our values of being Entrepreneurial, Responsible, Dedicated and Inclusive

We are looking for someone with:

  • Experience managing and developing software engineers into stars

  • Proven track record of setting up high performing teams

  • Experience of developing software and tools for other product teams and software developers

  • The energy, enthusiasm and appetite to collaborate and challenge the status quo

  • Experience working with distributed teams

  • Experience with either C#, Java, Typescript or Go

About the team
The team is composed of four full time employees and three full time consultants, all of whom are software engineers. The team members are located in CET and EET time zones.

The responsibility of the team is two fold: 1) develop, maintain and operate shared services that are leveraged by other product teams, ultimately making them more efficient. 2) develop and maintain developer tools that are leveraged by developers themselves so they become more efficient. The latter leg of the responsibility is shared with the Site Reliability Engineering team.

We like to ship code early and often, and do small and frequent iterations. As such we do expect teams to full own their services, from idea conception till supporting and operating them in production.
